Six New Websites Help Wisconsin Families Grow

The thought of updating the design for a single website can be daunting. But updating six websites?! We worked with the Coalition for Children, Youth and Families to build and launch six sites at once!

The Coalition for Children, Youth, and Families manages several unique projects and websites. Each site ties back to the Coalition’s mission of providing resources to families and communities for adoption and foster care. They wanted to improve their branding across multiple sites, while still ensuring that each had a distinct look and feel.

One of our first challenges was keeping track of (and updating!) all of the existing content. Our content migration plan included programmatic migration for two databases as well as a good amount of manual content migration. To make matters more interesting, some content is hosted in and created on a single site but accessed from other sister sites.

Then, instead of developing full design mockups for each homepage, we focused on only the most important site elements and created a style tile to provide a general sense of the look and feel for the main Coalition site in contrast with the sister sites.

We got to work building the underlying structure with a Jupiter theme, then recycled that theme for the next five sister sites, customizing each site with its own logo, themes, and layouts. In some cases, we also added custom posts:

  • wiadopt.org includes a custom Kids post type to showcase the profiles of children who can be adopted in Wisconsin.
  • wifostercareandadoption.org includes a custom Library Asset post type to present their library of digital resources as well as books and other assets available for checking out through a mail service.
  • wifostercareandadoption.org also includes custom Contact posts used through clickable map regions.
  • I could not be happier with Cornershop and their team than I already am. Whenever I had questions, my project manager was quick to reply and they kept me in the loop every step of the way. A dream to work with!
