Help Wanted: Part-Time WordPress Designer (Gutenberg-Focused, Contractor Role)

More Careers at Cornershop

Cornershop Creative (https://cornershopcreative.com) is seeking a talented, U.S.-based, part-time WordPress Designer to join our fully remote team.

We build beautiful, modern websites for nonprofits and small businesses. We’re looking for someone with a great design eye, solid WordPress experience, and a love for building sites with the Gutenberg block editor — no page builders, no bloated themes.

What You’ll Do

  • Design clean, engaging websites for mission-driven clients
  • Build and style WordPress themes using the block editor (e.g., Blocksy or Kadence)
  • Interpret client goals and turn them into user-friendly layouts
  • Populate and structure site content (yes, content migration is part of this)
  • Ensure design and brand consistency throughout each site

You’ll work closely with project managers, developers, and other team members to bring websites to life. We envision this as a junior-level position, ideal for someone early in their career but with a strong foundation in web design.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong design skills — if you can’t make things look good, this isn’t the job for you
  • Experience with Gutenberg-based themes like Blocksy or Kadence
  • Confidence building content-rich pages using the block editor
  • Solid understanding of HTML5 and CSS
  • Awareness of accessibility, performance, and front-end best practices
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and adjust quickly
  • Comfortable working independently and asking questions when needed
  • A sense of humor — telling bad jokes is basically a job requirement
  • Won’t lose your s#!% if you occasionally get feedback like “can we make the logo bigger?” or “change the padding by 1px,” which may happen despite our best efforts
  • Passion for nonprofits and making the web a better place

Rate:

  • $45/hour
  • 10-20 hours/week, though actual hours may vary based on need and availability

  • Your résumé, which should include an indication of which U.S. state you live and work in
  • A brief cover letter, explaining why you’re excited about this role
  • Links to relevant work samples — recent websites, testimonials, or anything else you’re proud of

Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please make sure you include all of the above.
