Building a Digital Home for Housing Justice

When Common Ground Kentucky came to us, they were starting from scratch—but with a powerful and clearly defined mission: everyone in Kentucky deserves access to safe, high-quality, and affordable housing. They believe housing is a human right, not a profit-driven commodity.

To move this mission forward, they needed a strategic digital presence capable of supporting a complex organizational structure. The challenge? Building three distinct websites—one for their 501(c)(3) nonprofit, one for their 501(c)(4) advocacy arm, and one to represent their broader organizational identity. Each site needed its own voice, audience, and purpose while remaining visually and strategically connected under one cohesive brand.

A Thoughtful, Strategic Website Build

This was not a one-site project—it was a carefully coordinated digital ecosystem. Over the course of four months, we partnered closely with the Common Ground Kentucky team to plan, design, and build all three websites from the ground up using WordPress and the Blocksy theme.

Our process began with comprehensive sitemapping for each site to ensure the information architecture served multiple audiences, including:

  • Community members seeking housing resources
  • Supporters looking to get involved or take action
  • Advocates engaging in statewide housing policy efforts

From there, we developed coordinated design systems that gave each website its own distinct identity while maintaining visual consistency across the entire family of sites. We also focused heavily on content layout and clarity, ensuring every page had a clear purpose and guided users toward meaningful engagement.

Three Websites, One Cohesive Digital Ecosystem

The three websites we delivered include:

Together, these sites form a complete digital infrastructure that supports community organizing, statewide advocacy, and targeted housing justice campaigns across Kentucky.

Ongoing Hosting, Maintenance, and Support

Beyond the initial build, we continue to host and maintain all three websites, ensuring they stay secure, up to date, and optimized for performance as the organization grows. This ongoing partnership allows Common Ground Kentucky to focus on their mission while we handle the technical side.

A Complex Launch, Successfully Delivered

What sets this project apart is the successful launch of three interconnected websites simultaneously, each with its own compliance requirements and strategic goals. The Common Ground Kentucky team has been thrilled with the results and is already seeing supporters engage with their new digital home.

We’re proud to support their vital work with a digital presence that’s as intentional, organized, and mission-driven as their fight to make housing justice a reality in Kentucky.
