Small Changes Make A Huge Difference to Established Website

Matan started as an organization to support children with special needs by providing Jewish educational opportunities. Cornershop has worked with Matan for many years on a variety of projects, starting with building their website in 2016.

Earlier this year, in advance of a larger rebrand, Matan initiated a light refresh by updating their homepage and optimizing the site for mobile.  We started with an audit to identify opportunities and then implemented our recommendations, including:

  • A complete redesign of their header, footer and homepage
  • Moving their teen blog into the Posts post type to serve as an actual blog
  • Directing visitors to different areas of the site based on their audience group
  • Performance page speed optimization, which more than doubled the site’s performance score

We took a user-first approach in the redesign, which can be seen by comparing the old homepage to the new homepage on the website. Since the old homepage used a slider as the primary content feature, it was slow loading and difficult for users to find the content that is most relevant to them.

The new design features optimized images, which load better, especially on mobile. We also made recommendations for signposting in the content to guide users of different age groups to the content that’s most relevant to them. Fun animations and a wider color palette add life to the design, without negatively impacting performance.

This project is a great example of how all organizations, even those with small budgets, can really improve the performance, ranking, and user experience on their websites.
