When the SBL team approached us, they knew they were looking for a complete overhaul of their existing site to support their evolving goals and complex membership needs.
Their primary goals for the project were threefold: refresh the nonprofits’ visual design to reflect a modern scholarly organization, improve and streamline backend functionality, and replace their legacy association membership system (AMS) with a more flexible and integrated membership experience.
We knew just what they needed, and set out to deliver a custom-build WordPress site using the Full Site Editor and Basket, giving them complete control over layout, content, and design flexibility moving forward.
One of the more technical features we developed was the ICI block. This custom block allows SBL to show specific content to users in approved customers only. With the help of the MaxMine GeoIP2 API, they can create content that is visible only to users from countries added to the block’s custom list. This level of geographic content control gives the SBL team greater flexibility in how they share their resources globally.
We also implemented restricted content functionality, allowing SBL to assign page-level access based on user roles. This feature is crucial for managing member-only resources and ensuring that different user groups only see what’s relevant to them.
To support SBL’s broader mission and functionality, we integrated systems including Events Calendar Pro, SearchWP, Gravity Forms, Members, and Advanced Custom Fields PRO. We also connected re:members, formerly Impexium, to WordPress for seamless membership data management.
In addition, our work included accessibility enhancements, a refined sitemap, style tile development, SEO planning, and ongoing support for content strategy. The result is a robust, secure, and highly customized website that equips SBL with the tools they need to serve members, share scholarship, and grow their reach.
