As a longtime partner of ours here at Cornershop, we were excited and honored when they reached out a few years ago about creating an employee dashboard. Their HR department envisioned it as a way for employees to easily access and edit important information, and more, with four main goals:
- To have a central place to display announcements from HR
- To include employee profiles where users could update important information
- To host downloadable resources like the handbook and other important files
- To house links to all of the important employee sites and like payroll and new job postings
We began by mapping user journeys for two distinct audiences: new hires that needed fast access to onboarding materials, and long-time team members who wanted friction-free paths to everyday tasks. With these goals in mind we chose the WordPress Block Editor as our foundation, allowing us to weave the dashboard into the existing site architecture while preserving the brand’s visual language and ensuring future-proof flexibility.
To power user accounts we went with the Ultimate Member plugin, unlocking the opportunity to use fully customizable profile pages where employees update contact details, add short bios, and upload profile photos. Once the first version launched we enhanced the experience with automated email notifications that alert every user when a new announcement goes live, ensuring no one misses important updates.
And now their downloadable resources are organized in one central location that houses the employee handbook, policy documents, and helpful templates. Clear labeling and search functionality make it easy to locate files in seconds, and the curated collection of external links mean that employees can reach payroll, benefits information, and more with just a click.
This year we made several updates to the design, configuring their Blocksy settings to match the new look and feel of the dashboard. Making a number of changes to update the typography, accent colors, and other improvements to enhance accessibility.
Our collaboration with The END Fund highlights how a purpose-built internal tool can strengthen nonprofit operations. by combining open-source technology with user-centered design, we delivered a scalable solution that will grow alongside the organization. We’re proud to support their ongoing fight against neglected tropical diseases and we look forward to making more updates and improvements to the dashboard as new needs emerge.
