The Mono Lake Committee is a non-profit citizens’ group dedicated to protecting and restoring the Mono Basin ecosystem in California through education, conservation, and community engagement. Their website plays a vital role in this work, serving the visitors of their brick-and-mortar Information Center and bookstore, participants in their in-person education programs, and supporters around the world. When the Committee first partnered with us at Cornershop, their site was dated and difficult to navigate. We built a clean, simple, and well-organized site using the Blocksy theme and Gutenberg blocks, improved the navigation to help users find what they need, and added taxonomies to organize their two decades of news articles. We also integrated the WordPress site with Luminate Online and designed a beautiful new donation form.
After launching their new site in 2020, Mono Lake continued working with us to keep it running smoothly and growing alongside their mission. By 2023, recurring maintenance issues were taking up valuable staff time, so the Committee added on a maintenance and retainer plan to their work with us for our team to help address these challenges and invest in long-term improvements for the site. Our first priority was resolving technical issues that slowed down their work and affected user experience. Once those were under control, we shifted focus to enhancing their online store, donation forms, and conversion tracking, laying the groundwork for future SEO and Google Ads efforts.
To make the most of their retainer, Mono Lake added a maintenance and support plan with fast tasks in June of 2024. This extra time to work on their site has allowed us to handle small fixes and one-off requests quickly without cutting into hours reserved for larger development projects. The result has been steady, strategic progress toward a more stable and optimized site.
As part of this ongoing partnership, we’ve modernized donation forms originally built in Luminate Online to better track and encourage conversions. We’ve also improved site functionality so visitors can easily browse events, shop online, or make a gift without barriers. With these updates in place, future SEO and Ads campaigns will drive even more meaningful engagement from supporters who find the site through search.
Through this work, we’re helping the Mono Lake Committee maintain a strong digital foundation and continue advancing their conservation goals. Our partnership blends proactive maintenance with forward-looking strategy, ensuring their website remains a powerful tool for education, advocacy, and fundraising for years to come.
